Dr Helen Wilmot

Helen joined NIBSC in 2006 and is a Senior Scientist in the Haemostasis Section, Division of Biotherapeutics.  She is responsible for the development of new and replacement WHO International Standards (IS) for a range of blood coagulation factors.  Recent projects include the 1st IS for Factor XII, Plasma, and the 2nd IS for Factor XI, Plasma, both of which are used to aid diagnosis and clinical monitoring of patients, and the 2nd IS for Factor IXa, used primarily to monitor IXa activity in factor IX therapeutics. 

Helen is responsible for Independent Control Testing of purified coagulation factor X concentrate, used to treat patients with factor X deficiency, and for control of factor IX in purified factor IX concentrates and prothrombin complex concentrates.

Her research interests include new and recombinant therapeutics (e.g. for factor IX concentrates) and assay development.

Helen completed her PhD at the University of Aberdeen in 2005 and her undergraduate degree at the University of Edinburgh in 2001.
