Dr Paul Metcalfe

Dr Paul Metcalfe was a Principal Scientist and leader of the Transfusion Medicine Section (now Cellular Immunology) in the Division of Biotherapeutics, until his retirement in 2016. At NIBSC his interests included HPA genotyping, platelet alloantibody detection and the provision of reference materials. He managed the Platelet Immunology Quality Scheme and made several World Health Organisation (WHO) International Standards for platelet alloantibody detection and quantitation. He was also responsible for the production and validation of genomic reference materials on behalf of the WHO.
