6th Heparin Workshop on the characterisation of heparin Products

The National Institute for Biological Standards and Control (NIBSC), Agência Nacional de Vigilância Sanitária (ANVISA), Governo Federal Brasil Patria Educadora, and the United States Pharmacopoeial Convention (USP) hosted an event in São Paulo, Brazil on 6th and 7th August 2015.

The heparin workshop provided an open platform for manufacturers, pharmacopoeias and regulatory bodies to discuss the quality attributes of heparin products.

In view of the possible re-introduction of bovine heparin as a therapeutic (particularly into the USA), the workshop focused on characterisation, standardisation and quality of bovine heparin. Experience with the revised pharmacopoeial monographs for heparin sodium and low molecular weight heparins was also discussed.
