Supporting the Global Supply of Oral Cholera Vaccines

At the annual MHRA lecture, the Director-General of WHO Dr Margaret Chan highlighted the international effort undertaken to build a stockpile of Oral Killed Cholera vaccines.  The stockpile of vaccines is intended to address the global shortage of Cholera vaccine, expand access and assist with the containment of Cholera outbreaks and epidemics in susceptible populations. Since 2000, NIBSC as a WHO Collaborating Centre has undertaken extensive testing and auditing of several vaccine formulations, which make up the stockpile.
