Cell lines catalogue

As a not-for-profit Government-funded institute, the UK Stem Cell Bank holds all UK-derived human embryonic stem cell (hESC) lines, alongside several cell lines from other depositors worldwide.

The UK Stem Cell Bank holds a broad collection of high-quality controlled human pluripotent stem cells (hPSCs) and feeder cells to support the culture of stem cells. Apply for cell lines.

All clinical grade cell lines supplied by the UK Stem Cell Bank have full traceability and undergo extensive Quality Control (QC) testing prior to release. This process helps to ensure freedom from contamination, proof of identity and, where applicable, consistency between produced cell banks and the depositor banks.

Our current QC process include tests for:

  • Purity-  Mycoplasma, bacteria, fungi and virus contamination
  • Identity- Short Tandem Repeats (STR)
  • Stability- Karyotyping
  • Stemness- Cell morphology, gene expression and differentiation capacity

We have compiled a report on the cell repository held by the UK Stem Cell Bank, including information on recent trends in demand for UK-derived hESC lines.

Clinical grade stem cell lines meet the requirements of the European Tissue and Cells Directives (EUTCD) and are suitable as starting materials for clinical applications.  Matched research variants of these lines are also available.

Our highly characterised human pluripotent stem cell lines can be used for research purposes worldwide.

We provide Primary MEFs to support the growth of embryonic stem cells and induced pluripotent stem cells.
